A ROOF FOR OFFENBACH

My sister brought the first picture for my project ‘A Roof for
Offenbach’ on the Wilhelmsplatz, the city’s biggest square. It showed
a flower, consisting of numbered areas to be painted. Right away,
people stood in line in order to participate. |

OFFENBACHER WOCHE

For the Offenbach shops’ promotion weekend, the optometrist Gabriele
Petras also wanted a picture painted. Suddenly the idea fell into
place. The concept of Offenbach Pictures was born. |
WILHELM SCHOOL

Wilhelm School is an elementary school in the center of the city. It
hosts about 300 girls and boys of 31 nationalities. The painting was
brought to the annual party, where students stood in a long line in
order to contribute. |

BOOTH OF SENIORENHILFE

Seniorenhilfe is a neighborhood organization for mutual self-help.
Members shop for those who can’t themselves; they read books and
papers, and they help children to do their homework. The picture was
painted on Self-Help Promotion Day in Offenbach’s pedestrian mall. |
KUNSTANSICHTEN 2002

Kunstansichten is the annual exhibit of Offenbach artists, and it
includes a weekend of open studios. Visitors come from the entire
Rhein-Main Region and beyond. |

hall. Before and after municipal budget negotiations, the local
politicians found time to participate. |

The German-as-foreign-language section is a meeting point for
familiesfrom many nationalities. The students wrote ‘Only together we
have a future!’ in all the languages that they knew. |
CITY LIBRARY

The picture in the city library was done right after the outbreak of
the war in Iraq. Many youths showed in their painting what they think
about war. |
HAINBACHTAL WORKSHOPS

More than 600 healthy and mentally disabled people come together in
the Hainbachtal Workshops. The mentally disabled women and men learn
to work at the laundry, in the production section or at the nursery. |

Oldie Club has about 400 members - all of them musicians or fans who
like rock and beat. At each club meeting in a local pub in the quarter

Germany’s National Meteorological Service DWD is a state institution
located in Offenbach. It has about 2,500 employees. DWD collects and
analyzes meteorological data. |
VEREIN FÜR SCHUTZ- UND
GEBRAUCHSHUNDE (VSGO)

At the VSGO, dogs are trained how to behave in public. The training is
attended by youths and adults with their dogs, who may be either
purebred or from the pound. |

PRODUCTION SCHOOL

Youths who failed to finish secondary school both learn to cook and
pass their final exams at the production school run by START Project.
The culinary results of their education are delicious! |
